Watercolors 101

Rules of Watercolors...
1. Dip the brush in the water, then in paint
2. Brush onto the paper and repeat

3. Above all else, keep the paint on the paper

One day last week Eva had a great time painting with Melia. This was her first time with watercolors and she loved being "big" like her sister.

As you can see Eva has not grasped the rules of watercolors. EVERYTHING is going in her mouth these days.

My thoughts...she is contained in her highchair (it is not going to end up on the walls and floor), watercolors are non-toxic and she is having a great time. A quick bath wahsed away all the evidence.

You will see from the pics, Melia thought that Eva was on to something.

Quotes of the Week #2 and more

So I know you have been waiting all week to hear more quotes from Melia (can't wait until Eva starts talking more so I can include her in the fun), so here they are...My favorites of the week...

#1
I asked Melia, "Can you get me Eva's bunny please?" (Eva's favorite toy, and something she cannot sleep without)

She replies, "No, please" as if adding please to the end of no will make it all better. Good try Melia, but you still need to do what I asked you to do.

#2
Melia had a runny nose and cough last week. There were days that her nose was running non-stop. One morning she got up and after about an hour, went up to her room to change. I walked in her room, to see her putting on another pair of pajamas.

I asked, "Melia, why are you putting on other pajamas?"

Her response, "Those ones (pointing to the ones now on the floor), I don't want those they have whiskers on them."

I said, "whiskers?"

She says, "Ya, from my nose" I realize what she is talking about and say, "Oh, you mean boogers"

"Yea boogers"

#3
Sunday night, I was putting Eva to bed and Chris was rocking Melia, spending some quality daddy and daughter time together before bed. He was singing "hush little baby don't say a word..." to her (her favorite song currently). She said, no daddy, "I sing now" and comes out with...

"Hush little baby don't say a word daddy's gonna buy you underwear" All he could do is laugh. I am in the hallway just listening and laughing inside and how adorable the moment was.

and finally #4
During the past week Melia had a few restless nights of sleep and ended up in our bed at some point in the night. One night at four in the morning she was snuggling next to me. I rolled one way and she rolled the other. After a few minutes she says in a sweet little voice,

"Mommy, your bum is touching my bum" (We were laying back to back)

I know what your thinking, "What is her infatuation with bums and underwear?" I can't really give you an answer, but she just makes me laugh. There has been a lot more talk about bums and underwear in our house since she has been potty trained for a few months now. That's all I can relate it too.

In other news, tonight registration opened for the "Iceman Cometh 2009". If you remember back a few months ago, Chris, Ben and, a few other friends participated in a 27 mile mountain bike race. Rebekah and I decided we are going to join the boys this year and participate in the Slush Cup race, a shorter 8 mile version of the race.

A quote from the Iceman site...

"the Meijer Slush Cup course follows the Vasa 10 Kilometer trail out,
around and back. The Meijer Slush Cup course has moderate climbs,
some screamer downhills, and is all on forest two track roads."

This race will take place just five months after I give birth to our baby boy. This will be a incredible challenge, but it will give me something to strive for.

My goal...finish the race (without dying). I look forward to the challenge and hoping I can meet it.

And last but certainly not least, a few picts of my favorite people...

Quotes of the week

There are so many things that Melia says, that make me laugh, smile, and think "Where does she come up with these things?" So I thought I would share them with all of you.

These are all things that came out of her little mouth this week.

"Can we go to Church now, I want to dance and get my praise on" Get my praise on - a phrase coined by her favorite babysitter Ms. Teri :)

Last night as we were praying with Melia she says, "I want to pray" so we let her. This was her opening line...

"Dear God in Florida"

Everything she talked about last night had to do with Florida and she was insistent God was there. I have no idea where talk of Florida came from.

"Mommy I missed you" (when I came home from work early today). It made my heart melt.

And finally...

"mommy, I see your bummy"

Yesterday when I got home from work I sat down on the living room floor to change Eva's diaper. My wonderful maternity pants, which always seem to be falling down, were on their way down again revealing, lets call it my lower back. Melia observed this and felt the need to comment and laugh. This occurred even with a cami and a bella band on. Sometimes it's just unpreventable :)

Poor Little Eva

Wednesday morning Eva woke up with a cough. By Thursday afternoon her nose was running non-stop and she was running a fever. Motrin became her friend. She was still sleeping well through the night and was just a little crankier during the day. Friday night she was beside her self. She was up every 45 min through the night. Her nose running into her mouth was driving her NUTS. She would sit up crying, spit out her passy, and wave her hand in front of her nose. She did not really want me to wipe it, but settled for that over it dripping down her face. Chris is gone for the weekend, so she spent the night in bed with me. She tossed and turned all night, and woke up with a fever of 102. It was off to the clinic after the girls woke up Sat. morning. She has a double ear infection. She endured a lot of firsts this weekend..first fever, first ear infection, and first antibiotics. She has been relatively healthy, besides a cold here and there, but the fever did her in. She stopped running a fever last night around dinner time. She was exhausted when she went to bed, and it looked like it was going to be another long night. She was up once an hour from 8:00pm-2:00am. At 2:00 I brought her into bed with me, and she has not moved or made a peep since.

So why I am up at 6:00am on the computer you ask???? Good question. I woke up at 5:15, after three hours of uninterrupted sleep, wide awake. I laid in bed tossing and turning, until an hour later I gave in to no sleep and grabbed the lap top. I sit in the dark typing, looking up baby boy names, reading blogs, checking online for great deals on baby boy clothes, and NOT sleeping. A nap will be in my future today, I am sure, but as for now I sit quietly, listening to the sweet sound of Eva breathing peacefully next to me, thankful that she is feeling better and sleeping well.

Snowmobiling Trip

This weekend Chris, Ben, Rebekah and I made a day trip out of snowmobiling. We have had sleds for a couple years, but I had yet to use them. I was a little apprehensive at first, but we had a great time. Although it was very fun, one day in the cold and snow was enough for me. I do not think I could spend a whole weekend doing it. I woke up this morning VERY sore. It was a great time with friends. We rode a few hours, stopped to eat and rode a little. I was the slowest of the bunch, but did hit speeds of 55-60 a few times.

It's a boy!!!

We went this morning for the ultrasound and it's a boy. He looks great. I was amazed once again at all of the things they can check and measure while looking at the somewhat distorted black and white screen. Technology is amazing. We are really excited to be adding a boy to the mix in June. We have been inundated with pink the last few years, and it will be nice to add in some green and blue.

Funny story about the experience...

The tech tells us it's a boy. She then goes on to take measurements and check out the vital organs. She stops for a minute and says, "Oh, look he is holding himself." Yes, that's right, this little 12oz. baby boy had found his "defining feature" and decided to hold on. She printed a picture of this for Chris to have. I could not help but laugh.

Boys Away and the Girls Will Play

Chris, his dad, my dad and brother went up north for the weekend snowmobiling. I took advantage of the weekend to have some girl time. On Friday night Tab and Tiff (two teenagers that lived with us for a year) came over for the night. We put the girls to bed, did foot spas, watched a movie, and ate cookie dough. I had a great time catching up with them. Saturday they left at lunch time, and Melia, Eva and I all took a nap. That evening, Carly (my sister-in-law) and her two girls (age 3 and 4) came over for another sleepover. The kids had a great time bouncing in the bounce house (a Christmas present) and playing together. The girls went to bed and Carly and I spent a couple of hours making bows for the girls. The sleepover was cut a little short, when Emma (my niece) woke up throwing up at 1:00am. She fell back asleep and they left at 8:00am when everyone woke up. Melia was sad to see her cousins go so early. She was looking forward to having Micky Mouse waffles with them for breakfast (made with another Christmas present).

Melia and Eva were very excited to see that dad was home when they got up from their nap today. We ventured out to go sledding, but after about 20 min. Melia had to go potty. She could not focus on anything else but that, so we headed home. I wasn't going to push her, since it has only been 2 weeks since she has been potty trained. A fun and relaxing weekend.
